Introduction
Are you tired of web pages loading with the wrong character encoding? Look no further! With this
Chrome extension
, you can manually set the character encoding for any web page, ensuring that it displays correctly. In this article, I will share my own experience of using this extension based on the total rating of 4.101123595505618 and user reviews.
How it Works
By right-clicking anywhere on a web page, you can
access
the option to manually set the character encoding. Once selected, this character set will be automatically applied to all pages on the same site. If you want to revert back to the page's default encoding, simply select "Use page default". It's that easy!
Ensuring Security and Privacy
During the installation process, Chrome will inform you that this extension has the ability to read and change all your data on the websites you visit. Don't worry, this is necessary for the extension to modify the HTTP response headers and override the original character set. Rest assured that the developers have designed it with security in mind, so you can confidently use this extension.
Latest Version and Additional Features
The latest version, V0.4, brings new capabilities to the extension. It now supports changing the encoding of local files as well. However, please make sure to check the 'Allow access to file URLs' option in the extension manager page to enable this functionality.
Compatibility with Chrome 72 and Beyond
It's important to note that older versions of this extension will stop working with Chrome 72 and above. This is because the new Chrome version requires extensions to request extra permission to modify the response header. To ensure uninterrupted functionality, it is recommended to use V0.51 or later versions of this extension.
User Support and Bug Fixes
If you encounter any issues or find that the extension is not working as expected, fear not! The developers are dedicated to providing support and making necessary improvements. If you encounter any problems, simply share the URL of the page that is not working, and the team will do their best to resolve the issue and make it work for you.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this Chrome extension for manually setting character encoding is a valuable tool for anyone who frequently encounters display issues due to incorrect encoding. With its easy-to-use interface and ability to override the original character set, you can ensure a seamless browsing experience. Give it a try and see the difference it can make!
16 Reviews For This Extension
What is there in this extension that would not theoretically work in Chrome versions earlier than 125? (minimum_chrome_version: 125) We are not considering forks and popular Chrome modifications that do not have a manic chase for updates with increasing versions. Are we preventing them from installing this extension?
